What is it about short weeks, that make them seem like the longest ever? And we haven’t even done that much, but holy moly am I glad that it is Friday, and we have a slow, rainy (!!) weekend ahead of us. The one thing we do have to do though, involves being out of the house by 6.45am, which, not going to lie, is rather less than ideal, especially with a sleepover also happening tonight. So come 6.30pm, the diffusers are getting loaded with sleepy oily goodness to have everyone tucked up and sleeping at a reasonable hour!
Sleep support would have to be, without a doubt, the number one thing I get asked about. Absolutely because it’s a huge issue for so many people, that impacts our lives so widely, but also because it’s an easy and “safe” way to start exploring the therapeutic side of the oils, when we first start to think of essential oils as more than just “pretty smells”. It was definitely a big one for me, when I started, and it wasn’t long before I was down the rabbit hole of using oils for everything.

My personal sleep blend is a mix – lavender, ylang ylang, juniper berry, roman chamomile, frankincense, cedarwood and petitgrain. I mainly use it when travelling so have thrown a bit of everything in there to help avoid restless travel nights, and also to hopefully avoid inflicting my sleep talking self on my travel buddies! Mr 12, meanwhile, finds Roman Chamomile and bergamot is his ideal blend. In the diffusers, we also regularly use Lavender Peace in one bedroom, and a mix of Peace and Anchor in another. I’ve also had success with a drop of frankincense under my big toe, and have helped family members with that trick as well. It is my first port of call when I am starting to have trouble sleeping.
And when we need to pull out the big guns, Copaiba softgels are amazing for helping to convince one’s brain it doesn’t need to talk at one all night long. When I created the graphic, these were only available in the US, but literally as I’ve been typing, it’s been announced they will be available from the local Aussie & NZ warehouses from Monday, along with a specially curated “Bedtime Bliss” starter bundle available now. I do love a good surprise release on a Friday afternoon!
I love hearing everyone’s sleep blends, as they are as personal as our bedtime routine. Lavender is always an interesting one to suggest, as I’ve found people seem to either love it or hate it! But once you’ve got that sleepy combo nailed down, there’s nothing like the smell of it wafting up the hallway to get you brain into night-time mode. It’s like Pavlov & his dogs, but with less bells and dogs, and more little brown bottles…
